Art at Grangecon

Our current exhibition (Spring 2013) features the felting work of artist Miriam Brady.

Miriam Brady is a textile artist living in the foothills of the West Wicklow mountains.   She draws her inspiration for her wall pieces  from her beautiful surroundings and her deep love of nature.

Her pieces are created with wool and silk fibres using a felting technique.  The use of warm soapy water and friction help to cohese the wool and silk to form a solid piece of fibre.

Each November, her exhibition in her home includes wall pieces, as well as wearable items,eg  felt gloves, babies christening booties, large and small scarves, and ornate bowls, all made from wool and silk. These can be viewed on her website www.loughannadesign.com .  She can also be contacted by phone on  0877849031.

PREVIOUS EXHIBITIONS

Hervé de Wergifosse

For the month of June we are exhibiting the art of wood turner Hervé de Wergifosse (owner of wood craft business, Wergiwood >>>).

Hervé's pieces are all made out of native Irish woods often combined with metal.

"More than any material, timber has a soul. Each fibre contains a personal history, as time and nature have fashioned your piece’s colour, grain and texture. From log to art piece, the turner’s gouge reveals the natural beauty of the wood, giving new life to century old Irish trees.

It is a privilege to have created unique pieces of work to be enjoyed by you for many more years."

ANNA NAGLE

This is a solo exhibition of the work of Blessington resident, Anna Nagle. Most of the pieces on show reflect a year of experimenting with 'spotaneous painting' - "painting with no plan, leaving room for what lies in the subconscious to come forward with imagery and colour to inform and aid one's healing process'.

MARGOT FOGARTY

'Witness': a series of beautiful landscapes and rural scenes by local artist, Margot Fogarty, is our exhibition for March. Drop in and bear witness to them yourself - you won't be disappointed. Margot's talent is as natural as the objects that inspire her:

"I paint the earth and that which grows on it. For me the process is very simple - I choose to paint something that, for some reason, catches my attention and in that moment the urge to capture it, is decided. The task at hand is now to bring together whatever it is that I believe I have witnessed. To be a witness to an event is such a powerful thing. Witnessing is all about the experience, what you have seen, felt, heard or even smelled in some cases. I rely totally on pure trust and the hand of God after that!"

Margot Ussher is a self taught artist and dance therapist, living and working in Blessington, Co. Wicklow

She has also shown work in many group exhibitions including the Royal Ulster Academy, the Ulster Museum and the Kennedy Gallery. For some years she was based in the herbarium of the Botany Department of Trinity College, Dublin, and was commissioned to draw new illustrations for the 7th edition of David Webb’s ‘An Irish Flora’ (Dundalgan Press). She has done extensive botanically correct pen and ink drawings for researchers at Trinity College (Dublin), Mainz University, Aberdeen University, Perth University (Australia), Leiden University, and Edinburgh Botanic Gardens. These drawings have been published as illustrations in papers for various scientific journals such as Blumea. Since then she has been living and painting in West Wicklow. Holly's main method is botanical watercolour on hot-pressed Fabriano paper, but she also works in soft pastel and pen and ink, and has recently started painting with oils.
